TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Defense Minister Wellington Li-Hsiung Koo (顧立雄) pledged on Wednesday (Oct. 9) to review the shooting training procedures following a tragic incident at the Ching Chuan Kang (清泉崗) base in Taichung City a day earlier.
A soldier from the Air Force Air Defense and Missile Command's (空軍防空暨飛彈指揮部) 302nd Battalion suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the face during target practice. Koo addressed the Legislative Yuan (立法院), pledging a comprehensive investigation into the incident and promising to report on the execution of standard operating procedures.
Democratic Progressive Party (DPP, 民進黨) Legislator Daihua Lin (林岱樺) urged the Ministry of National Defense (MND, 國防部) to expedite the investigation and ensure appropriate compensation for the affected family.
Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) stated that the Air Force Command Headquarters (空軍司令部) will lead the investigation and stressed the importance of addressing safety issues in military training. Koo assured that compensation efforts would be prioritized to comfort the bereaved family.
