TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Mainland Affairs Council (MAC, 大陸委員會) expressed deep regret on Tuesday (Oct. 8) over the failure of China's Taiwan Affairs Office (國務院台灣事務辦公室) to acknowledge the Republic of China (ROC, 中華民國) as a sovereign state.
This statement followed earlier remarks by China's Taiwan Affairs Office, which claimed that "the fact that mainland China and Taiwan belong to one China has never changed."
MAC emphasized that the Taiwan Affairs Office's statement reflects Beijing's refusal to recognize the existence of the ROC. They asserted that the ROC's survival relies on the collective efforts of its people and cannot depend on the goodwill of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP, 中國共產黨), which they believe is deliberately packaged and subject to change.
MAC urged Beijing to respect the existence of ROC as a foundation for positive cross-strait interactions and constructive dialogue.
