TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Typhoon Krathon (山陀兒) left two dead, one missing, and 667 injured as it swept through Taiwan, the Central Emergency Operation Center (中央災害應變中心) reported on Friday (Oct. 4). The number of injuries increased by 179, with Kaohsiung City (高雄市) bearing the brunt.
Deputy Minister of Transportation and Communications Chen Yen-po (陳彥伯) led the 16th task force meeting Friday morning, revealing that Kaohsiung City reported 137 injuries.
Typhoon Krathon's onslaught resulted in 7,402 reported incidents, with 1,417 new cases, including 1,036 in Kaohsiung City and 166 in Pingtung County (屏東縣). Authorities are still addressing 5,022 unresolved cases, primarily involving fallen trees and damaged infrastructure.
The typhoon forced preventive evacuations in 14 cities and counties, including Keelung City (基隆市) and New Taipei City (新北市), displacing 11,362 people by 7 a.m. Local authorities set up 133 shelters across 10 counties, accommodating 2,117 individuals.
