TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Immediate thunderstorm warning for Keelung City (基隆市), New Taipei City (新北市), Taipei City (台北市), and Yilan County (宜蘭縣) were issued on Friday (Sept. 27) by the Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署). The heavy rain is expected to last until 4:15 p.m.
Due to the influence of the northeast monsoon and increased moisture, the CWA released a heavy rain advisory at approximately 2:25 p.m., and issued a level-two flood alert for Zhongshan District (中山區) in Keelung City.
The advisory warns of convective cloud systems that could lead to short-duration heavy rainfall. Keelung City may experience localized heavy rain or torrential rain, while the Greater Taipei area and Yilan region may see localized heavy rain.
The CWA urged the public to be cautious of lightning and strong gusts. It also advised residents in mountainous areas to be wary of landslides, falling rocks, and rapidly rising streams, while low-lying areas should guard against water accumulation.
Additionally, two tropical depressions are currently in the Pacific region. Tropical Depression 21 has intensified into Typhoon Yagi (燕子), and Tropical Depression 22 is expected to strengthen into Typhoon Krathon (山陀兒) by tonight or tomorrow. The CWA stated that these typhoons could potentially impact Taiwan directly.
