TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC, 交通部) announced plans on Wednesday (Sept. 11) to increase transit service fees by 35%, citing 17 years without a hike.
The Civil Aviation Administration (民用航空局) currently charges NT$10,000 per transit flight. However, despite the post-pandemic travel recovery, revenue only reached NT$1.9 billion in 2023, falling short of the NT$2.4 billion peak in 2019.
The Civil Aviation Administration noted that recent equipment updates and the failure of flight numbers to return to pre-pandemic levels have led to losses. They also highlighted that current transit service fees are significantly lower compared to neighboring East Asian countries.
The MOTC emphasized the need for the fee adjustment to address these financial shortfalls and maintain service quality. If operations proceed smoothly, the official aims to implement the new standards by the end of the year.
