TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Transportation Minister Chen Shih-kai (陳世凱) announced on Tuesday (Sept. 10) that he respects the governance of the Taiwan Railway (台鐵) board. The statement came after the board discussed fare adjustments that have remained unchanged for 29 years.
The Taiwan Railway Board reviewed a report on fare adjustments but found that more essential data was needed, including comparative analysis with other transportation modes and sensitivity analysis. After a thorough discussion, the board returned the report, deferring the decision to the next meeting.
Chen noted that the 29-year freeze on Taiwan Railway fares warrants discussion. He stated that The Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC, 交通部) will support and respect the governance of the Taiwan Railway board and will assist once the proposal is submitted following the proper procedures.
