PARIS (TVBS News) — Taiwanese badminton player Fang Jen-yu (方振宇) will participate in the Paralympics on Monday (Aug. 26) for the second time, emerging as a strong medal contender for Taiwan. Overcoming a challenging birth that resulted in muscle atrophy in his left hand, Fang has demonstrated remarkable resilience.
In 2021, Fang became Taiwan's first Paralympic badminton player at the Tokyo Paralympics. He advanced to the semifinals but narrowly missed a medal by finishing fourth. This year, Fang entered the competition as the second seed. He noted that the competitors' abilities were closely matched and emphasized his focus on each match without undue pressure.
Fang has already familiarized himself with the competition venue and reported good physical condition. He aims to adjust to the time difference in the coming days. His coach, Chi Shyh-ching (紀世清), confirmed that preparations are on track, supported by two partners, and aims to keep pressure minimal on Fang.
In addition to Fang, Taiwanese women's doubles players Yang I-chen (楊伊宸) and Hu Guang-chiou (胡光秋) have also reached the Paralympics. Hu expressed her intention to approach the upcoming matches as regular open tournaments, channeling pressure into motivation.
