TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Minister of Economic Affairs Kuo Jyh-huei (郭智輝) confirmed Monday (Aug. 26) that the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA, 經濟部) will send a delegation to the European Union (EU) in September. The mission aims to consult on Taiwan's offshore wind power localization policy and seek an acceptable resolution.
The EU has raised concerns that Taiwan's policy violates World Trade Organization (WTO) regulations and has formally requested dispute resolution consultations under WTO rules. Kuo acknowledged this issue during the opening ceremony of the Bio Taiwan Committee (BTC, 2024行政院生技產業策略諮議委員會議開幕式).
Kuo stated that the EU is very concerned about the wind power issue, and the MOEA will be fully prepared to explore the localization policy in an open direction. It will strive to comply with the spirit of the WTO and jointly work to develop green electricity in Taiwan, Kuo added.
In addition, Kuo highlighted that Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) plans to establish research and development centers in Tainan and Kaohsiung. He believes this move will significantly impact Taiwan's AI industry and contribute to the country's future development.
Kuo will mark his 100th day as Minister of Economic Affairs tomorrow. He remarked that he has gradually integrated into the team and will continue to serve the public.
