TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taoyuan City Guishan Elementary School Baseball team (桃園市立龜山國民小學少棒隊) triumphed over Canada 8-0 on Wednesday (Aug. 14) at the 2024 Little League World Series, taking them one step closer to the championships.

The team, representing the Asia-Pacific region, secured their victory with support from the new director of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York (駐紐約台北經濟文化辦事處), Tom Chih-chiang Lee (李志強), Deputy Director of the Culture Center of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York (紐約華僑文教服務中心), Wang Yu-chi (王鈺淇), and over 100 overseas Taiwanese.

 

The Little League World Series, organized by Little League Baseball, runs from Aug. 14 to Aug. 25. The Guishan team, participating for the fourth time, previously finished as runners-up in 2009 and third in 2012 and 2023. Last year, they also won the Team Sportsmanship Award, becoming the first Taiwanese team to earn this accolade in the award's 19-year history.

Taiwanese teams have a long history in the Little League World Series, entering the competition in 1968 and winning the championship 17 times. The tournament, first held in 1947, features international teams of players aged 11 to 12.
