PARIS (TVBS News) — The Olympic Games Paris 2024 Closing Ceremony, held at 3 a.m. on Monday (Aug. 12) Taipei time, saw Taiwanese boxing gold medalist Lin Yu-ting (林郁婷) and "Taiwan's Fastest Man" athlete Yang Chun-han (楊俊翰) proudly carrying the flag for Team "Chinese Taipei."
At the ceremony, the host nation, France, led the athlete parade, followed by Greece, the birthplace of the Olympics. Team Chinese Taipei entered 181st, with the flag bearers marching in alone.
This year, Taiwan achieved its second-best performance with two gold and five bronze medals, ranking 35th on the medal count.
The ceremony also featured athletes and coaches from various sports, including boxers Chen Nien-chin (陳念琴), Wu Shih-yi (吳詩儀), Huang Hsiao-wen (黃筱雯), Kan Chia-wei (甘家葳), Lai Chu-en (賴主恩), and their coaches Tseng Tzu-chiang (曾自強), Ko Wen-ming (柯文明), Liu Tsung-tai (劉宗泰), and Lo Shang-che (羅尚策).
Table tennis player Cheng I-ching (鄭怡靜) and her coach Cheng Chia-chi (鄭佳奇), as well as athlete Peng Ming-yang (彭名揚) and his coaches Tseng Hsiao-sheng (曾孝生) and Tsai Yi-ta (蔡易達), also participated.
In this year's Olympics, the United States topped the medal table with 40 gold, 44 silver, and 42 bronze medals, securing its fourth consecutive lead. China, Japan, and Australia followed with 40, 20, and 18 gold medals, respectively.
