TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) announced on Monday (Aug. 12) that Taiwan will experience increased moisture and a strong likelihood of rainfall in the afternoons this week. The rainfall could intensify, with a chance of heavy rain.
The windward areas of central and southern Taiwan may also see isolated showers or thunderstorms from early morning to noon. Northern and eastern regions will be partly cloudy to sunny, but thunderstorms could occur in the afternoon, especially in mountainous areas.
From Tuesday (Aug. 13) to Wednesday (Aug. 14), moisture, cloud cover, and rainfall will increase across Taiwan. Morning and noon showers or thunderstorms will extend to northern regions, and heavy rain may occur during afternoon thunderstorms in all areas.
From Thursday (Aug. 15) to Sunday (Aug. 18), the development of a low-pressure system over the eastern sea of Taiwan could affect weather conditions. Southern Taiwan may experience prolonged rainfall with a higher likelihood of heavy rain. Other regions will also be susceptible to heavy rain in the afternoons due to thermal effects.
The CWA explained that a large low-pressure belt near Taiwan and south of Japan is a normal phenomenon, adding that the administration will continue to monitor for potential tropical system developments.
Travelers to Japan should be cautious, as tropical systems will impact the region over the next week.
