TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Taipei City Government Department of Sports announced on Wednesday (Aug. 7) free access to fitness centers and swimming pools across the city's 12 districts until the following Monday (Aug. 12).
This initiative is to celebrate Taiwan's Father's Day, which is on Aug. 8, and honor the outstanding achievements of Taiwan's Olympic heroes.
Commissioner Wang Hung-shiang (王泓翔) encouraged all citizens to invite their fathers out for a special day. He said that whether it is a father who works hard to support the family, a stay-at-home dad who is busy with housework, a mother who also plays the father's role, or parents of diversified families, they are all the most irreplaceable superheroes in the minds of their children.
He added that this rare occasion allows families to exchange roles, and let young ones take their fathers out for a change.
On Thursday, U-Sport members who are fathers can receive an exclusive bonus of 88 U-Coins and receive a bonus of U-Coins at participating venues. Fathers can also access fitness centers and swimming pools for free, while their accompanying children get a 50% discount.
The department's official Facebook page has also launched a special Father's Day activity. Participants who like, share the raffle post, and upload photos of themselves exercising with their father by Sunday noon stand a chance to win prizes, including a Xiaomi mini massage gun, Mizuno T-shirts, and sports bags.
