PARIS (TVBS News) — Taiwan's "Goddess of Weightlifting," Kuo Hsing-chun (郭婞淳), will face a significant challenge due to previous injuries as she prepares for the Women's 59kg event at the Olympics on Thursday (Aug. 8).
Despite her injuries, Kuo aims to defend her gold medal. Her recent training has shown improvement over the past six months, with her back injury becoming more manageable.
She expressed hope that her injuries would not prevent her from competing. At 30, Kuo is the second oldest among the 12 competitors and currently ranks fourth based on registration results.
Meanwhile, Lo Chia-ling (羅嘉翎), known as "The Nation's Girlfriend," who will compete in Taekwondo Women -57kg completed her weigh-in on the same day.
Lo, who has been working with the National Sports Training Center (國家運動訓練中心) for over a month to control her weight, visited the Grand Palais with her coach Liu Tsung-ta (劉聰達) on Thursday to acclimate to the competition atmosphere.
According to the draw, Lo will face Laetitia Aoun from Lebanon in the first round. Liu analyzed that Aoun's fighting style has mostly stayed the same and believes that as long as Lo's previous foot injury does not flare up, she should advance smoothly.
In women's golf, Chien Pei-yun (錢珮芸) and Hsu Wei-ling (徐薇淩) will continue in the second round. Both golfers had mediocre performances in the first round, making Thursday crucial for their chances of winning a medal.
