TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Costco Taiwan announced on Wednesday (Aug. 7) that it will end its in-store Tesla vehicle sales promotion, which showcased Tesla electric cars in Costco Taiwan stores, after closing and will halt vehicle sales starting the next day. The decision comes after Tesla CEO Elon Musk stated on social media that he had "canned" the program as he had not approved it.
The promotion included a range of incentives, such as a NT$3,000 window film coupon, a NT$10,000 Costco e-commerce voucher, and a choice of one charging gift for purchases made before Aug. 15. Options for the charging gift included 5,000 kilometers of free supercharging, a Type 2 travel charger kit, or a home wall-mounted charging equipment installation plan.
In response to Musk's statement, Costco Taiwan clarified that the promotional content, developed in cooperation with Tesla Taiwan, only included window film and e-commerce vouchers, not the charging solutions.
