KAOHSIUNG (TVBS News)—Taiwan's badminton ace Tai Tzu-ying (戴資穎) returned to Taiwan on Wednesday (Aug. 7), opting for a low-key arrival. Tai immediately took the high-speed rail to her hometown of Kaohsiung.
Upon Tai's return, Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai (陳其邁) surprised Tai with a warm welcome, and gave her rice balls as a gift. Meanwhile, a large crowd of fans gathered at her Kaohsiung home.
Regarding her future plans, Tai revealed she would first focus on healing her injuries before preparing for upcoming competitions, including the Japan Open, in less than two weeks. She will assess her progress in recovery before confirming her participation.
Tai competed in the Olympics with an injury. In the women's singles event, she ultimately lost to Thailand's Ratchanok Inthanon. This defeat prevented her from advancing to the quarterfinals, ending her Olympic journey.
