TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwanese badminton player Chou Tien-chen (周天成) secured a spot in the quarterfinals of the Olympic Games Paris 2024 with a decisive victory over Japan's Kodai Naraoka in the men's singles round of 16 on Thursday (Aug. 1) afternoon. Chou dominated the match, winning in straight sets, 21-12, 21-16.
In the first set, Chou displayed consistent performance, scoring five consecutive points to achieve a maximum lead of nine points and ultimately winning 21-12.
In the second set, Chou took control early, extending his lead to 10 points at one stage. Although Naraoka made a determined effort to close the gap, Chou ultimately secured the match with a 21-16 victory. This stellar performance underscores Chou's determination and skill as he looks ahead to the next round.
Chou’s opponent for the next match has yet to be confirmed. Having reached the quarterfinals in both the Rio Olympics in 2016 and the Tokyo Olympics three years ago, Chou, now 34, is determined to surpass his previous achievements by advancing to the semifinals.
