TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A latest Global Views Monthly (遠見雜誌) survey revealed shifts in public approval for Taiwan's magistrates and mayors, with New Taipei City Mayor Hou Yu-ih (侯友宜) experiencing the highest dissatisfaction rate among the six municipalities after returning to municipal governance post-presidential election.
The survey indicates a notable decline in satisfaction for Hou, whose approval dropped by 11.8 percentage points from the previous year. This marks him as the only mayor among the six to see a regression in satisfaction levels.
Conversely, Taipei City Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安) saw the largest increase in approval, jumping 13.1 percentage points to 59.4%.
Performance and Public Perception
Chiang's governance score also rose to 68.5, a 2.8-point increase from last year. His disapproval rate, at 22.8%, hit a record low for Taipei City.
Miaoli County Magistrate Chung Tung-chin (鍾東錦) received the "Most Improved Performance Award" with a satisfaction rate of 69.7%, an 18.1 percentage point increase from last year, and a governance score 70.4.
This survey underscores the dynamic nature of political leadership and public satisfaction across Taiwan's cities and counties.
