TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Cristiano Amon, Qualcomm's president and CEO, made his debut speech at the 2024 COMPUTEX in Taipei on Wednesday (June 5), highlighting the role of generative AI in smart devices and the importance of Taiwanese suppliers in the global supply chain.
Later that day, Amon also visited key partners' booths, such as ASUS (華碩) and Acer (宏碁), underscoring his vision for the rebirth of the computer industry through AI technology.
Prepare for the era of AI PC
During the media interview, Amon emphasized the transformative potential of AI PCs, stating, “Exactly to enable this transition of Windows into an AI experience with the Copilot+PC. It’s the biggest transition of Windows since Windows 95.”
He outlined Qualcomm's strategy to regain performance leadership within the Windows ecosystem and support partners in transitioning to a Copilot+PC model. This move, according to Amon, positions the Windows ecosystem favorably as the PC industry undergoes a rebirth.
Industry leaders rally behind AI PCs
The industry's pivot to AI PCs has garnered support from top executives. Acer's COO, Jerry Kao, expressed optimism about breaking down barriers between AI technology and humans, foreseeing a positive impact on AI PC development.
Meanwhile, ASUS's Co-CEO, S.Y. Hsu, highlighted the significant technological breakthroughs, including “NPU performance and power efficiency, which set AI PCs apart from traditional ones.”
The presence of chairpersons and senior executives from Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo at Qualcomm's event signals strong industry backing for the AI PC initiative.
