TAIPEI (TVBS News) — On Thursday (June 6), the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) caucus accused the Kuomintang (KMT)-led Legislative Yuan of overstepping its bounds by attempting to extend its influence to the Control Yuan.
The DPP caucus argued that the KMT's actions, including threats to abolish the Control Yuan before intimidating its members, are tantamount to constitutional destruction and political chaos.
Controversial Legislative Proposal
The controversy centers around a legislative proposal introduced by KMT legislator Weng Hsiao-ling, which has sparked widespread debate. The bill aims to prevent Control Yuan members from abusing their power for personal gain, with penalties ranging from NT$300,000 to NT$6 million for violations.
However, DPP Caucus Secretary-General Wu Szu-yao criticized the KMT for not practicing self-restraint and instead interfering with the Control Yuan's operations.
Further exacerbating tensions, Wu Szu-yao highlighted that the DPP's proposed legislative reform bills have been blocked by the KMT, with no consideration given to their review.
