TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger addressed a packed audience on the first day of COMPUTEX Taipei, unveiling groundbreaking advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) and data center technology. In his keynote speech, Gelsinger emphasized the growing demands on infrastructure and the need for more scalable and flexible solutions.
"Our customers need infrastructure that's scalable and flexible," Gelsinger said. "They need standard platforms to integrate with existing systems."
AI Driving Change
Gelsinger detailed the challenges faced by modern data centers, highlighting the critical need for increased computing performance, greater density, and enhanced energy efficiency. "They also need more computing and performance, greater density, greater energy efficiency, greater server capacity," he noted. "And, today we're launching the solution for this next era."
One of the key announcements was the introduction of Xeon plus RAG (Retrieval-augmented Generation), a combination that Gelsinger said would revolutionize enterprise workflows. "Today, over 60% of workloads now run in the cloud, but over 80% of the data remains on-prem," he explained. "Xeon plus RAG changes that. RAG becomes, in our view, one of the most important enterprise workflows combining your data and databases."
Gelsinger also introduced the Gaudi 3 AI accelerator, which promises to deliver double the performance per dollar compared to its predecessors. "Gaudi 3 is expected to deliver 2x the performance per dollar. And this idea is simply music to our customers’ ears. To spend less and get more," Gelsinger stated. "It's highly scalable, uses open industry standards like Ethernet."
In addition to data centers, Gelsinger touched on advancements in client computing products, including next-generation CPUs like Lunar Lake, designed to bring AI capabilities to PCs and edge applications. Gelsinger emphasized the company's commitment to an open ecosystem support approach.
Meeting Future Demands
Gelsinger underscored the increasing complexity data center providers face, stressing the importance of flexibility and high-performance computing. "Every data center provider I know today is being crushed by how they operate, how they expand their footprint and the space and flexibility," he said. "For high-performance computing. They have more demands for AI in the data center."
The keynote not only showcased Intel's technological advancements but also projected a future where AI technology plays a pivotal role in transforming industries. "We see this as an essential upgrade for the modern data center. A high core count, high density, exceptional performance per watt," Gelsinger remarked. "And this enables us to have the choice for high intensity, scale-out workloads for the future and simple term performance up powered down and drastically smaller footprint."
