PINGTUNG (TVBS News) — A group of new recruits began their military journey at the Pingtung Longchuan Camp's new soldier training center on Tuesday (March 5), marking the start of the yearlong Marine Corps task force.
Since January, the one-year conscription system was reinstated with an initial target of conscripting 91,927 individuals. Known for their rigorous boot camp, the Marine recruits reported for duty at the beginning of March, following the first batch of Army servicemen who started their eight-week training in January.
The conscripts from various parts of the country arrived at the base on tour buses. After a routine process that included confirming their identities, receiving haircuts, being issued uniforms, and obtaining personal equipment.
Upon arrival, the new soldiers gradually receive uniforms, boots, protective helmets, and combat vests. Their pay bonuses are contingent on meeting the end-of-term assessment standards.
Under the new conscription system, the induction training period has been extended from five to eight weeks. Additionally, discipline education sessions have been lengthened from two hours to four, and legal education now starts on enlistment day instead of within the first week.
In response to recruits' concerns, female officers have been introduced into the command structure. Miao Chi-min, head of the Marine Corps Recruit Training Squadron, said, "To provide conscripts with better care, all levels of our unit's leadership will prioritize empathy."
In addition to training and service time adjustments, the new conscription system has introduced a military duty declaration to help newcomers understand their responsibilities and foster a sense of military discipline as they transition from civilian life.
