TAICHUNG (TVBS News) — South Korea's T'way Air resumed its Incheon-to-Taichung flight route on Thursday (Jan. 4), marking the service's return with an inaugural flight that carried 189 passengers, mostly independent travelers.
The Taichung City Tourism and Travel Bureau hosted a welcoming event for the first group of tourists from South Korea, offering them gifts and welcome packages. This gesture underlines the bureau's expectation that the reopened route will enhance tourism exchanges between Taichung and South Korea, potentially boosting the local tourism industry.
Director Chen Mei-hsiu of the bureau highlighted Taichung's appealing attributes for South Korean tourists, including its mild climate, strategic location, rich tourist offerings, and renowned food culture.
Operating with a Boeing 737-800 aircraft, the Incheon-Taichung route will now offer daily round-trip services, especially during the winter season. The route, with tickets already available, adds to the growing connectivity between Taichung and South Korea, as T'way Air joins Korean Air and Asiana Airlines in servicing this route.
The Ministry of Transportation and Communications' Tourism Bureau's 2023 data shows that South Korea-to-Taiwan travel ranks third in tourist numbers, with about 470,000 visitors, just behind Japan.
