TAICHUNG (TVBS News) — The Youth Model United Nations (MUN) in Taichung, held on Sunday (Nov. 12), garnered high praise for its educational merit from both local and international students. The event, uniting diverse student groups, underscored the importance of teamwork, global perspectives, and diplomatic skills.
Elle Davis, 17, shared her experience of the MUN's collaborative nature. "We learned a lot, especially about teamwork. Initially, we thought MUN was about individual representation, but it's actually team-oriented. Everyone contributes to creating a draft resolution, which was quite interesting," she explained.
Similarly, 17-year-old Keira Geiger spoke about the event's learning opportunities. "Many participants were experienced, so we had to quickly adapt to drafting resolutions, cooperating with others, forming alliances, and understanding our position relative to other countries," said Geiger.
Amy Wei, 16, emphasized empathy and networking. "I learned the importance of considering diverse perspectives because the issues we discuss are global, not just confined to our country. Building friendships was crucial, as they provided support and insights," Wei noted.
Eric Chang, chair of the Environment Programme, discussed MUN's broader objectives. "MUN goes beyond Taiwan's participation in the UN; it's about understanding our world and creating a future impact," he stated.
International students and TCYMUN observers Tereza Balounová and Symbat Togombeva commended the participants' skills. Balounová focused on effective communication, while Togombeva highlighted the need for a global perspective in high school education, fostering cultural understanding and open-mindedness.
The event, organized by Tunghai University and the Taichung City Government, showcased the role of global education in developing future leaders, according to the organizers.
