TAIPEI (TVBS News) — President Tsai Ing-wen, addressing a gathering at Taichung City Shui'an Palace on Saturday (Dec. 30), underscored Taiwan's growing global significance, asserting that the world now acknowledges the island's indispensability. Tsai highlighted the substantial transformations experienced by Taiwan and the world during her over seven years in office.
At the outset of her presidency, Taiwan's gross domestic product (GDP) stood at NT$17.5 trillion, Tsai recalled. Today, it stands at an impressive NT$23 trillion, a testament to her administration's commitment to investing in Taiwan and fortifying its infrastructure. Advanced semiconductor chip production, a cornerstone of Taiwan's economy, flourished during her tenure.
Tsai commended Taiwan's economic stability and its rapid progress, surpassing the advancements of the Four Asian Tigers in her view. She attributed this success to the unity and resilience of the Taiwanese people in overcoming numerous challenges.
With over seven years of leadership, Tsai expressed her hope that her administration's efforts would leave a lasting impact, enabling her successors to maintain Taiwan's forward momentum.
