TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan received a shipment of 462,800 doses of Novavax's XBB vaccine on Saturday (Dec. 30), with plans to commence distribution on Jan. 9, as announced by the Taiwan Centers for Diseases Control (CDC).
In May, Taiwan classified COVID-19 as a class 4 endemic disease, aligning it with the status of a seasonal flu.
Deputy Director General of the CDC, Lo Yi-chun, stated that this decision was based on clinical trial reports and vaccination recommendations from the U.S., the European Union (EU), and the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) under the Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW).
According to Lo, individuals who have not yet received a COVID-19 vaccine should get two doses, administered at least four weeks apart.
Those who have already been vaccinated should receive a single dose, provided that at least three months have passed since their last vaccination.
