TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwanese Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) plans to open its factory in Japan's Kumamoto precinct on Feb. 24, according to Japanese daily newspaper Kumamoto Nichinichi Shimbun.
The report reveals that construction of the plant began in April 2022, with mass production expected by the end of 2024. Part of the Kumamoto site's office building commenced operations in August 2021, and manufacturing equipment installation began in October 2021.
TSMC has previously stated that if a second factory were to be built in Japan, Kumamoto would be the preferred location, likely adjacent to the original plant.
As the factory becomes operational, TSMC anticipates employing around 1,700 people, with staff recruitment progressing smoothly, as reported by Kumamoto.
