TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Hsiao Bi-khim is poised to reignite her political efforts in Hualien as she prepares for her first campaign rally there on Sunday (Nov. 26).
Known for her deep roots and devotion to the region, Hsiao's political journey in Hualien has been one of both triumph and defeat.
A former lawmaker who once faced a setback in a 2010 legislative by-election, Hsiao ultimately spent a decade cultivating strong ties in the area.
Her perseverance paid off in 2016 when she made history for the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) by capturing more than half of the votes, defeating former Kuomintang legislator Wang Ting-son with a 53.8% vote share — a first for the DPP in Hualien.
However, her 2020 bid for re-election saw her concede defeat to Fu Kun-chi, ending her strategic "Eastern Expedition" in the region.
Despite this, Hsiao's unwavering passion for local engagement, her extensive campaign experience, and her engaging oratory skills are celebrated within party ranks.
As participants eagerly anticipate the joint rally with Lai Ching-te, there is a sense of a renewed vigor and unity within the DPP.
Party insiders praise Hsiao's exceptional achievements in international diplomacy, considering her an ideal candidate to lead Taiwan forward and ensure national security and stability.
