TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Independent candidate Terry Gou's running mate, Lai Pei-hsia, explained their decision to exit the 2024 presidential race in a Facebook post on Friday (Nov. 24). She thanked supporters and expressed pride in their campaign's efforts.

Despite meeting the endorsement requirements, Gou and Lai decided to withdraw, aiming to unite Taiwan and enhance living standards. Lai emphasized their dedication to consolidating support until the end and expressed disappointment at failing to unify opposition parties.

In her post, Lai praised Gou's vision and entrepreneurship, committing to continue protecting the nation. The announcement coincided with the registration deadline for presidential and legislative elections.

With Gou and Lai's exit, the race becomes a three-way contest between DPP's Lai Ching-te, TPP's Ko Wen-je, and KMT's Hou Yu-ih.
