TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Taiwan High Speed Rail (THSR) on Tuesday (Oct. 31) announced that it will start implementing its early bird discount program registered with passengers' ID numbers printed on the ticket from Dec. 1, with advance purchases available from Nov. 3.
The THSR warned that passengers who fail to present a valid ID will be treated as ticketless travelers and charged an extra 50% of the traveled section fare, as per the regulations of no-ticket travel.
The company stated in a press release that, to purchase early bird discount tickets, passengers must provide their national identity card or passport number, and the ticket will only be valid for the person whose name appears on it.
The company reminded the public that once an early bird reservation is complete, they will not accept changes to the ID number.
As the new measures aim to protect the rights of passengers who buy early bird discounts and ensure fairness of the offer, the THSR noted that tickets can only be canceled and re-purchased. Still, the original early bird prices cannot be guaranteed.
