TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan High-Speed Rail (THSR) introduced a new policy regarding non-reserved seating on Thursday (Aug. 31). Beginning Sept. 1, non-reserved seating will no longer be restricted to cars 10-12.
The tickets will no longer display the label "Non-Reserved Cars 10-12"; instead, it will read "Non-Reserved Cars Only."
This change signifies extending non-reserved seating availability beyond cars 10-12. Passengers are advised to identify cars specifically designated for non-reserved seating.
Since 2007, the provision of "Non-Reserved Seats" on the high-speed rail has been confined to cars 10 through 12. Numerous passengers would await trains on platforms designated for non-reserved seating.
However, the restricted number of cars allocated for non-reserved seating has often led to congestion during peak hours.
To optimize the utilization of available space and mitigate congestion during peak periods, THSR has opted to adopt a more adaptable approach to seating arrangements.
THSR has expressed its commitment to continually adjusting the allotment of non-reserved seating cars based on passenger requirements. The objective is to strike a balance between assigned seating and the demand for non-reserved seating.
Wang Jen-tzu, the station master of THSR Taipei Station, noted the initiatives undertaken to ensure passengers are adequately informed about non-reserved seating particulars.
Travelers can access information regarding the availability of non-reserved seating for each train through the THSR app and the company's official website.
Within the station premises, passengers can also use the passenger information display systems in the main hall, gate areas, and platforms to pinpoint the location of non-reserved seating cars.
Moreover, supplementary staff members are deployed to assist passengers during periods of peak demand.
