TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Minister of Economic Affairs Wang Mei-hua debunked on Tuesday (Oct. 31) online rumors that the government is planning to sell shares of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC).
Emphasizing that the government instead has been increasing its stake, Wang explained that the National Development Fund of the Executive Yuan owns a significant amount of TSMC shares, and the National Development Council (NDC) has already clarified the matter.
Wang highlighted the crucial role TSMC plays in Taiwan's economic development and the extensive assistance provided by the government to the tech giant over the years. The economics minister stressed that a prosperous TSMC in a thriving Taiwanese industry is a shared aspiration.
Meanwhile, the NDC rebuked an online video spreading the rumor that the government was disposing of TSMC shares Monday night, urging the public not to trust videos from unidentified sources.
