TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Kuomintang (KMT) presidential candidate Hou Yu-ih emphasized his dedication to protecting Taiwan's homeland and national security at a campaign event in Tainan City on Saturday (Oct. 28), promising not to betray Taiwan.
While attending an event at the Xinying Taizi Temple, Hou addressed the unresolved cross-strait issues that have led to an increased global focus, taking the example of the United States listing Taiwan as a military aid country.
He also pointed out the growing number of Chinese military aircraft that have entered Taiwan's air defense identification zone (ADIZ) and a reduction in commercial flights across the Taiwan Strait.
Hou affirmed that national security is the foremost priority, stating that he has committed his life's work to safeguarding Taiwan while reiterating that he will not betray the island nation.
Hou said he believes Taiwan is at a critical juncture, choosing between war and peace. He also stated the importance of maintaining social order, avoiding collusion between government officials and businesses, and prioritizing economic development.
