TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwanese actress Lai Pei-hsia announced on Thursday (Oct. 19) that she has officially obtained her Certificate of Loss of Nationality of the United States (CLN).
Since independent presidential candidate Terry Gou announced on Sept. 14 that Lai would be his running mate, she has been embroiled in controversy over her U.S. citizenship.
"I can clearly tell everyone that Lai Pei-hsia is no longer a U.S. citizen," she wrote in a social media post today.
Gou's campaign office stated that after Lai submitted her application to the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) and went through the interview process with immigration officials, she finally received the certificate.
Gou further expressed that the application procedures were all part of the election plan, and he will fight alongside Lai for the future of Taiwan.
