TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The lead actress of the Taiwanese political drama 'Wave Makers,' Lai Pei-hsia, announced Thursday (Sept. 14) that she has accepted independent presidential candidate Terry Gou's invitation to be his running mate for the 2024 election.

Gou and Lai held a news conference at the Chang Yung-fa Foundation, announcing them joining hands to run for the 16th President and Vice President of Taiwan.

Many people may know singer-actress Lai from her role in the Netflix show 'Wave Makers,' in which she portrayed a presidential candidate and eventually won the race. Her performance also won her a nomination for "Best Supporting Actress" in a Miniseries or Television Film for the Golden Bell Award

Aside from acting for the past 30 years, Lai has been dedicated to studying and researching various sectors, including psychology. She believes this will contribute to her role as a vice presidential candidate.

"I have a Ph.D. specializing in leadership, and in the past few years, I have studied at Harvard's Kennedy School, law schools, medical schools, and business schools,” she said.

As Gou highlighted her communication skills,  Lai also said she would communicate with the internal staff, the media, the opposition party, and most importantly, the people of Taiwan.
