TAIPEI (TVBS News) — President Tsai Ing-wen emphasized Taiwan's committed stance to not provoke or act rashly amid tense cross-strait relations during a meeting with a delegation from the American Enterprise Institute (AEI), a Washington, D.C.-based think tank, on Monday (Oct. 16).
In her speech, President Tsai stressed the importance of strengthening relations with the U.S. and other democracies sharing similar ideologies.
The president also highlighted Taiwan's achievements in self-reliant defense, including the development of the Brave Eagle advanced jet trainers and the domestically built Narwhal (Hai Kun) submarine, reflecting the country's commitment to security.
Tsai thanked Robert Doar, president of AEI, for his continuous efforts to promote U.S.-Taiwan relations since his appointment in 2019.
On his maiden visit to Taiwan, Doar lauded the warmth and generosity of the Taiwanese people and praised Tsai for steering democratic, economic, and cultural development amid challenging geopolitical circumstances.
Doar said the AEI's visit aims at gaining insights into Taiwan's perspectives on security issues to better inform U.S. scholars and policymakers and deepen relations between the U.S. and its partners.
