TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A grand foot-washing event, which set the Guinness World Record in 2013, was held on Saturday (Oct. 14) afternoon in front of the Presidential Office Building, with over 10,000 people attending.
Former Vice President Annette Lu, Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an, and Yunlin County Magistrate Chang Li-shan graced the event, which aims to communicate filial piety by offering to wash the feet of parents, demonstrating the impact and importance of the event.
Olympic gold medalist Kuo Hsing-chun was also in attendance to wash her mother's feet, hoping to gain greater public awareness of filial piety through the event.
Expressing expectation to spread the event spirit globally, Chang Chao-kuo, president of the Piety Association (孝道總會), said that the purpose of this activity is to "show gratitude to parents and do good deeds."
This exhibition of respect and care underscores the deep-rooted value of reverence for parents in Taiwanese society.
