TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an addressed on Tuesday (Aug. 15) the allegations of fraud against Hsinchu City Mayor Kao Hung-an for allegedly misusing funds intended for aides.
Chiang expressed his respect for the judicial investigation and underscored his hopes for clarity in the case. Kao is a member of the Taiwan People's Party (TPP).
A day earlier, KMT Chairman Eric Chu publicly expressed support for Kao Hung-an, saying, "I believe the law will vindicate her," leading to speculation that the party is backing TPP presidential candidate Ko Wen-je.
Chu's comments have sparked criticism, fueling a lack of confidence in the KMT's grassroots members toward its presidential candidate Hou Yu-ih.
Chiang expressed his respect for the judiciary and hoped for clarification of the facts through the legal process when questioned about Chu's support for Kao.
