TAOYUAN (TVBS News) — The Taoyuan District Juvenile Court ruled that a teenager surnamed Chiu must pay NT$12,000 in compensation to a garbage collector he insulted on Oct. 5.

The court also mandated that the minor and his guardian attend a legal counseling course to enhance their understanding of the law.

The incident occurred on Aug. 12, 2022, in Taoyuan's Bade District, where a garbage collector surnamed Su was insulted by Chiu while collecting garbage.

In response to the public humiliation, Su pressed charges against the minor. During the Juvenile Court hearing, the judge required Chiu to apologize to Su formally.

The Environmental Protection Bureau commented on the verdict, emphasizing that they will not tolerate any form of verbal or physical abuse against garbage collectors. They stated that individuals engaging in such behavior would face legal consequences.

The Bureau also encouraged the public to voice their concerns or suggestions through appropriate channels and assured them that they are open to receiving and implementing improvements.
