TAIPEI (TVBS News) — President Tsai Ing-wen praised on Monday (Oct. 9) the successful launch of Taiwan's first domestically-produced weather satellite, the Triton, highlighting Taiwan's advancement in the global space industry based on its semiconductor and precision manufacturing capacities.
The Triton took off successfully at 9:36 a.m. (Taiwan time) from the Guiana Space Centre, marking a milestone in Taiwan's pursuit of space technology achievements. The president emphasized that the satellite is entirely "Made in Taiwan," from conception to design and manufacturing.
President Tsai voiced the government's commitment to invest NT$25.1 billion over the next decade, in alliance with the private sector, to promote the space industry chain and cultivate talent in space technology.
The Triton will augment the forecasting ability of typhoons' intensity and path and facilitate scientific research in atmosphere, ocean, and terrestrial hydrometeorology.
The data it collects is projected to revolutionize global meteorological observation and forecasting, effectively making a significant international contribution.
From the Brave Eagle jet trainer and Hai Kun submarine to the Triton's ascend, President Tsai conveyed her aspirations for Taiwanese manufacturing to soar internationally, expanding toward space.
