TAIPEI (TVBS News) — President Tsai Ing-wen visited Pingtung on Saturday (Sept. 23) to express her concern for the victims and their families following the explosion at Launch Technologies Co. Ltd. in the Pingtung Technology Industrial Park on Friday evening.
The incident resulted in dozens of casualties, including fallen firefighters. Speaking at the Presidential Office on Saturday morning, Tsai demanded that relevant units promptly convene a disaster accident investigation meeting to uncover the truth behind the incident.
Acknowledging the severity of the fire incident, she stated that she immediately instructed the relevant departments to fully engage in disaster relief. The local government in Pingtung County also established a disaster response command center and activated the major casualty system.
Tsai noted that relief and assistance efforts were ongoing. Expressing regret at the death of three firefighters in the course of the relief operation, she offered condolences to the colleagues and families of the deceased.
She further appealed to the relevant departments to provide the families with timely assistance and redouble efforts to convene a disaster accident investigation meeting, striving to uncover the true circumstances of the accident.
