TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou will officially kick off at 8 p.m. on Saturday (Sept. 23) with the Olympic flag of Team Taiwan, officially called "Team Chinese Taipei," being jointly carried by Wang Kuan-hung, an 'A' standard swimmer at the Paris Olympics, and Lo Chia-ling, a taekwondo bronze medalist at the Tokyo Olympics.
Sports Administration Director-General James Cheng noted that the decision to select these two athletes as flag bearers reflects their high profile, popularity online, and outstanding sportsmanship. Both are considered favorites for winning gold medals at this year's Asian Games.
Lo and Wang, who both competed in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and won silver medals at the Universiade in Chengdu, continue to enjoy high hopes for their performances. Lo will compete in the women's 57kg category in Hangzhou, where she is seen as a strong contender for gold.
During the opening ceremony, the Chinese Taipei team will be the 36th country to enter the field, following Syria and preceding Tajikistan, in line with the English alphabetical order.
