TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Drivers on the southbound 231-kilometer point of the Formosa Freeway near Nantou County encountered an unusual sight on Tuesday afternoon (Oct. 3) — an injured pig in the middle of the road.

Upon receiving the report, the Highway Police promptly alerted the Freeway Bureau, who teamed up to remove the injured animal from the highway.

According to witnesses at the scene, a vehicle carrying pigs was parked on the side of the road. A dash cam captured a truck unable to swerve in time, resulting in the pig being struck.

In an effort that required substantial perseverance, police successfully removed the pig from the highway. The animal, injured and bleeding in multiple places, wailed throughout the ordeal.

The animal's unexpected presence in the roadway led to its handlers being held accountable for violating the Road Traffic Management and Penalty Act. As a result, fines were issued that could reach up to NT$18,000.
