TAIPEI (TVBS News) — E-commerce platforms in Taiwan have expanded and optimized their services to cater to the growing number of smartphone users.
With the rise of mobile usage and online shopping, social commerce has become popular with the creation of accessible apps and social media ads.
A social commerce staff member Lo Shih-hao pointed out how businesses have benefited from using social media apps to boost sales.
"They initially used LINE as a tool to assist with customer services," Lo said. "After collaborating with us and conducting business through LINE, they have seen a NT＄500,000 increase in monthly profits."
The Commerce Development Research Institute reported that approximately 60%-70% of consumers now shop on their phones, while the percentage of those using computers for online shopping has dropped to below 50%.
One of the main reasons e-commerce platforms choose to boost sales through phone apps and social media platforms lies in the convenience of identity verification.
"Small vendors and those who manage 'group buys' use phones as channels because it's easier to know who others are," Commerce Development Research Institute International Digital Commerce Research Division Director General Dr. Tai Fan-chan said.
"Especially during this era where phones are intimately linked to personal information, it's easier to trust their customers."
According to London-based creative agency "We Are Social," in February 2023, phone usage for online activities surpassed computers by 55% to 44%.
With online shopping becoming increasingly convenient on mobile APPs, social commerce has experienced significant growth, setting the trend for future businesses.
