TAIPEI (TVBS News) — With just a few clicks, owners of the latest autonomous cars can set their starting point and destination and leave the rest up to their vehicles. As level 3 vehicles gradually make their debuts, signaling, surpassing other cars, stopping for red lights, and changing lanes no longer pose any difficulties for these self-driving cars.
According to the latest report by Japan's Fuji Chimera Research Institute (FCR), by 2040, one in three new cars will be self-driving vehicles. Among these autopilot cars, level 3 vehicles with environmental detection capabilities will take up about 90%, meaning around 33% of all vehicles.
With the rise of AI systems, Taiwan's manufacturing businesses are also striving to expand their place in the market. "Taiwan is also expanding its reach in the business, with many technology companies doing OEM," imported cars dealer Kung Ling-chun said.
"However, there are still amendments to be made to the current road regulations in Taiwan, and concerns remain about opening the roads to self-driving vehicles when the maturity of the technology may not be there yet."
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) has introduced self-driving buses in its southern science park, providing 24-hour service and assisting more than 20,000 employees in getting to and from work. As the world becomes more reliant and trusting toward self-driving vehicles, technological advancements such as augmented reality systems and AI can help gather instant information to make autonomous cars more precise and safer.
