TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Lai Ching-te's campaign spokesperson, Chen Shih-kai, addressed concerns on Thursday (July 27) about the national security team's relationship with President Tsai Ing-wen's staff.
Chen emphasizes that national security encompasses diplomacy, defense, politics, and the economy and urged unity for Taiwan's sake. "When it comes to national security, everyone is on the same team, working together for Taiwan," Chen said.
Media reported on recent diplomatic challenges faced by Vice President Lai, attributing them to his national security team still in the midst of integrating. Their performance has not instilled the confidence that President Tsai's team has with the U.S. administration, leading to public debate.
Apart from this, Tsai's national security staff has not been assisting Lai's team with election-related national security issues for various reasons.
Chen stressed that Taiwan remains at the democratic defense line's forefront, with President Tsai and her government garnering trust from the international community. He appealed to the media to exercise caution in their reportage, advising against cooperating with unidentified sources to preserve national security.
