TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an announced on Wednesday (July 19) that the Department of Labor had not received official documents to initiate the investigation into the sexual harassment cases involving Kuomintang (KMT) legislators Fu Kun-chi and Cheng Cheng-chien.
Tung Cheng-yu, general manager of Mirror Fiction, accused Fu of forcibly kissing her at a banquet in 2014, supported by witness testimonials. Additionally, a male reporter accused Cheng of sexual harassment.
The KMT concluded its internal investigation on Monday (July 17), finding no evidence of sexual harassment for both men. The cases will now be forwarded to the Taipei City Government for further investigation in accordance with the Act of Gender Equality in Employment.
Chiang Wan-an reiterated the city government's stance, emphasizing, "Taipei City Government has zero tolerance for sexual harassment and will never allow, condone, or tolerate it." He further stressed that the Department of Labor would handle the matter in compliance with the law.
However, the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) raised concerns about the process, alleging a double standard in dealing with such cases. City Councilor Chen Yi-chung pointed out that when the DPP faced sexual harassment cases in May, the Taipei City Government acted swiftly, demanding proactive reporting on the progress of the cases.
Chiang assured that the city government would neither tolerate nor condone sexual harassment and affirmed there would be no distinction between parties in addressing such issues.
