TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The construction of the Sanying Line, a metro line connecting Sanxia and Yingge in New Taipei City, is progressing smoothly, with an overall completion rate of 70%.
The first train for the line has been manufactured in Japan and will likely arrive in Taiwan in August. The remaining 28 trains are currently under mass production and will be completed and stationed at the Sanxia Depot by the end of next year.
According to the New Taipei City Government's Department of Rapid Transit Systems, the initial train will undergo inspection and testing at the Sanxia Depot, including assessments of its static state function, dynamic operation, durability, and integration with the priority segment subsystem.
The train's exterior design, named "Wanli Blue Sky, Serene Gorges," was selected by the public in 2018 and represents the unique landscapes of Sanxia and Yingge, featuring light blue wave-like patterns that symbolize the vitality of nature.
The train's front-end design adopts a sleek 20-degree inclined streamlined shape with enlarged windows, providing passengers with a wide field of view. Each train can accommodate up to 330 people, with 50 seats available, as well as designated areas for wheelchair users and priority seating for passengers with limited mobility.
The Sanying Line, similar to the Circular Line, is an automated medium-capacity metro system consisting of 29 train sets, each comprising two carriages and a total length of approximately 35 meters.
The construction progress of the line, including the depot's main power substation, main maintenance workshop, operation control center, and parking lot, has reached 70.09% as of the end of June. It is projected to be completed by 2025, reducing the commuting time between the San-Ying area and Taipei City by approximately 20 minutes.
