TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Severe flooding on Beian Road in Zhongshan District, Taipei City, near The Grand Hotel, and Zhishan Road in Shilin District has disrupted traffic with water levels exceeding 10 centimeters.
The Central Weather Bureau (CWB) issued a heavy rain alert this afternoon, leading to multiple areas in Taipei experiencing road flooding, impeding the movement of cars and motorcycles.
Upon assessing the situation, the authorities took action to mitigate the impact. The police arrived at the scene and restricted a section of Beian Road to two lanes due to the high-water levels posing risks to road safety. They directed vehicles away from the submerged section of the road.
Environmental protection agency personnel also inspected the area and found no blockages in the drainage system. They blamed the inadequate drainage capacity of the underground pipes which led to the flooding.
As of 4 p.m., the water had receded significantly, and traffic is gradually returning to normal in the affected areas. The timely response from the authorities has helped alleviate the situation and facilitate the resumption of daily commutes for residents and nearby workers.
The heavy rain alert issued by the Weather Bureau serves as a reminder for residents to remain cautious and take necessary precautions during inclement weather conditions. The authorities said they will continue to monitor the situation and ensure the safety and convenience of the public.
