TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei City Mayor Chiang Wan-an dressed up as an MRT staff member to serve passengers on Thursday (June 15) to celebrate the sale of Megacity Passes.
The pass costs NT$1,200 a month but provides unlimited rides to users using the Taipei and Taoyuan MRTs, YouBikes, buses, or trains.
During the press event, the mayor assisted the MRT staff in providing passes to daily commuters who made the purchase.
Chiang reminded the public that the pass can be used starting on July 1, adding that it can be easily topped up at an add-value machine at MRTs or Kuo-Kuang Transport Motors.
The passes were a brainchild cooked up by Taipei, New Taipei, Keelung, and Taoyuan city governments, and Chiang revealed that it was a long time coming.
He remarked that the new monthly ticket can help commuters save money and assist the government in working toward its 2050 net-zero emissions goal, creating a win-win scenario for all.
