TAINAN (TVBS News) — Taiwan Centers for Disease Control (CDC) announced on Tuesday (June 14) the first domestic dengue case of the year in Rende District, Tainan City, marking the city's initial occurrence of dengue since 2019. So far this year, there have been one domestic case and 45 cases related to travel.

The CDC revealed that a 40-year-old woman sought medical attention on June 4 after experiencing symptoms such as fever, dizziness, and abdominal pain. As the symptoms persisted, she visited the hospital twice on June 7 and 10, eventually testing positive for dengue fever. The woman was discharged from the hospital one day before the announcement.

The CDC reported that the woman had traveled to Yilan, Hualien, and Kaohsiung during transmission. Local authorities have been notified to implement preventive measures.

A regional command center and rapid testing stations have been established in Tainan City to address the situation, as informed by Deputy Director General of the CDC Lo Yi-chun. These facilities will facilitate public health workshops, inspections of breeding sources, and chemical control in the vicinity of the woman's residence and surrounding areas.

The CDC emphasized that dengue viruses are more likely to spread during the summer and rainy seasons. They urged the public to maintain cleanliness in their environment to prevent dengue infections.
